Brooks Kushman
When Brooks Kushman P.C., an intellectual property (IP) law firm located in Michigan, opened a branch in Los Angeles in 2008, it continued a long, steady record of growth. Already one of the top national and international firms in IP law, over the preceding quarter-century Brooks Kushman has attracted a substantial base of clients in Southern California. These customers range from computer technology and energy specialists to corporations in the aerospace and recreational products industries.
Launched in 1983 by five attorneys, including current President of the firm, Mark Cantor, Brooks Kushman doubled in size within just five years. That trend continued into the new millennium, with the company experiencing an additional 25 percent in growth even during the recession in late 2008 and 2009.
The attorneys of Brooks Kushman have enjoyed many accolades during that period. Five attorneys from the firm received recognition on the 2011 Michigan Super Lawyers list for intellectual property law. Three other attorneys were honored the same year as Rising Stars. The 2011 edition of Best Lawyers in America cited Mark Cantor and Frank Angileri among the top IP attorneys in the United States. Ten lawyers at Brooks Kushman survived a highly selective application process to win positions on International Trademark Association (INTA) committees for 2012 and 2013.
In 2012, the national legal publication Law360 named Brooks Kushman as one of the 100 largest intellectual property firms in the world. The only Detroit-area firm so honored, the firm also stood out from other firms as one of just a few boutique IP firms on the list, as distinguished from legal giants that practice in a broad variety of areas.
