Barry Levet
Louisiana-based Dr. Barry Levet serves as a cardiothoracic surgeon. Since 2006, Dr. Levet has practiced medicine through the Schumacher Group, an emergency medicine management firm in Lafayette. At the same time, he holds memberships in a number of professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Louisiana State Medical Society, and The Society for Thoracic Surgeons. Recognized for his professional acumen, Dr. Levet holds a Rufus H. Alldredge Award for outstanding work in the study of orthopedic surgery. He is a member of several professional medical societies and has published research in his field.
Prior to assuming his present role, Dr. Barry Levet served with the Brownwood Regional Medical Center in Texas. Before this, he fulfilled multiple capacities in New Orleans. Earlier, Dr. Levet practiced emergency medicine with the Ville Platte Medical Center and acted as Attending Cardiothoracic Surgeon for the Glenwood Regional Medical Center, both located in Louisiana.
Dr. Barry Levet possesses an extensive academic background and has completed advanced training in his area of practice. Graduating with honors, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology through Tulane University in 1986. Dr. Levet subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine from the New Orleans, Louisiana-based school before fulfilling a flexible internship through Tulane from 1991 to 1992. Later, he conducted cardiovascular research with Dr. William Smith of Canal Street in New Orleans and served as primary care physician on a Native American reservation in South Dakota. Additionally, Dr. Barry Levet completed a cardiothoracic fellowship at Albany Medical College as well as a general surgery residency at the Marshall University John C. Edwards School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery.
