Argiris Malapanis

Currently on track to earn a PhD from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany in 2012, Argiris (Argyrios) Malapanis concentrates his studies in the field of nanoscience engineering. His dissertation focuses on the electrical and optical characterization of carbon nanotube diodes. Mr. Malapanis conducts his research at SUNY Albany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering. Under the leadership of Dr. Ji Ung Lee, the research scientist and his colleagues have accomplished several advancements in the field. Mr. Malapanis has gained significant experience in electrical characterization of devices, developed new techniques for measuring band-gap of quasi-1-D material, studied the susceptibility of carbon nanotube structures to various environments, and analyzed specific devices such as the I-V and C-V curves of CMOS structures.

Prior to his acceptance into the PhD program at SUNY Albany, Argiris Malapanis used his knowledge of mathematics and physics to instruct students. He was a math teacher at Community Impact at Columbia University. The nonprofit organization serves the communities of Harlem, Morningside Heights, and Washington Heights in New York City through a variety of charitable programs. Community Impact provides job training, shelter, clothing, companionship, food, and education to those in need. Argiris Malapanis instructed students in pursuit of a General Educational Development (GED) degree. During this time, he also furthered his education through non-degree graduate courses in Physics at The City College of New York. Mr. Malapanis also has teaching experience as a private tutor for college and high school students.

Throughout his research and education, Argiris Malapanis has gained valuable skills and experience. He possesses comprehensive knowledge of device growth through the use of oxygen plasma, reactive ion etch, and chemical vapor deposition. In addition, he uses imaging tools such as SEM, TEM, and software to conduct device simulation, data analysis, imaging processing, and schematics. Argiris Malapanis hopes to utilize his talents and knowledge in a challenging professional position in the field of semiconductor devices.
