Antonio Mondesire

Devoted to uplifting and enlightening others through his spiritual practice, Antonio Mondesire is an Awo Ifa--colloquially called "Babalawo," a term that loosely translates as "father of esoteric knowledge" in the Yoruba language. In his capacity as a priest of Ifa, Baba Mondesire counsels, mentors, and educates those who aim to expand their consciousness so they can eventually help themselves. He incorporates elements of individual and group counseling, prayer, music, and activism into his teachings, with the constant goal of opening the minds and hearts of his students and the community.

Antonio Mondesire strives to contribute to the healing of the human condition in various ways, and he uses his own life experiences, education, and training to help others achieve their personal and professional aspirations. To this end, Antonio Mondesire acts as an independent consultant and educator.

Antonio Mondesire has served as an Adjunct Professor at Brooklyn College, part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system, where he led a course that delved into the role of African religions in Puerto Rico and other Spanish-speaking Caribbean societies. He opted to depart from his position at Brooklyn College in June 2009 to focus on new projects.

Antonio Mondesire remains highly involved with the community through service. For example, he is currently an invited instructor with the Church of Lukumi Babalu Aye's Center for Community Knowledge's new online classes for ordained Lukumi clergy and also a returning panelist to the ICNY - Interfaith Center of New York's discussion among religious leaders ICNY’s annual course on “Religious Diversity for Social Workers and MSW students." In addition, he has served as a chaplaincy intern and successfully completed one unit of clinical pastoral education at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx under the standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education.

Finally, in addition to the contributions he makes as an Awo Ifa or "Babalawo" and life coach, Antonio Mondesire enjoys cultivating his talents as a percussionist, vocalist, and urban rail transit historian. His interest in urban rail provided the impetus for him to earn a Master of Science in Transportation Planning and Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York University. To conclude, in addition to his religious training, he applies the experiences and thought processes of a musician and of engineering to his work as an Ifa Priest.
