Alexander Castro

In 2010, Limelight Networks, Inc., acquired Alexander Castro’s start-up company Delve Networks, Inc. Since that time he has taken on a new leadership role inside the larger corporation. He currently serves as Vice President and General Manager of its video platform solutions division, which developed through the purchase of Mr. Castro’s former business. Although Mr. Castro has led Limelight Network’s business unit for less than a year, he has already doubled its customer base and boosted revenue by 300 percent. Responsible for negotiating multimillion-dollar deals in the United States and abroad, Mr. Castro has directed the company’s expansion into several new markets, including Europe, Japan, Latin America, India, and the Middle East. Drawing on his experience brokering business acquisitions, he also plays a key role in analyzing and performing due diligence on potential acquisition targets in the cloud computing sector. Under Alexander Castro’s direction, Limelight’s video platform solutions division also won the business of key clients such as American Express Company, TMZ.com (Time Warner), Prudential Financial, Inc., Sony Corporation, Sprint Nextel Corporation, and Rainbow Media.

From 1998 to 2005, Alexander Castro experienced similar success in leadership roles at the technology giants Amazon.com, Inc., and Microsoft Corporation. At Amazon, he orchestrated the development and introduction of the company’s first crowd-sourcing marketplace, Mechanical Turk, and held managerial responsibilities within the Web Services Division. During his tenure with Microsoft, Mr. Castro managed MSN Entertainment, one of the largest music streaming services at that time. He also drove Microsoft’s strategy for synchronizing Internet Explorer across Windows, Windows Mobile, and MSN. After launching Microsoft's initial business product offering, Microsoft CRM, Alexander Castro lent his expertise during the corporation’s purchase of Great Plains Software, a manufacturer of business-to-business solutions.

Alexander Castro holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from Cornell University. A gifted high school student, Mr. Castro was designated an AT&T Bell Laboratories Scholar, an honor that gave him a full college scholarship and the chance to develop software at Bell Labs. During his three summer internships there, his work encompassed diverse programming areas: Windows client programming, RISC assembly programming, video processing, voice recognition and interactive voice response software, and voice over Internet protocol applications. Later, while pursuing his graduate degree, he won a full scholarship from Microsoft. More recently, Alexander Castro has built upon his knowledge of business and marketing at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
